Polymarket US asks for your Social Security number as part of identity verification (KYC), which it says is required to comply with federal identity and anti-money-laundering (AML) rules before you can deposit funds or trade on its CFTC-regulated exchange. Its privacy policy says the number is collected at account opening, used to verify your identity and manage your account, protected with security measures that comply with federal law, and shared only as that policy describes. Without completing KYC, you cannot deposit funds or trade.

Why the SSN is asked for

When you sign up, Polymarket US asks for your date of birth, phone number, legal name, residential address and Social Security number for verification. In its own words, “KYC verification is required to comply with federal identity and anti-money-laundering (AML) rules.” Polymarket US is a Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC)-regulated exchange, and it says: “You must complete KYC before you can deposit funds or trade.”

What the number is used for

Polymarket US's privacy policy lists a Social Security number among the information it collects and maintains when you request to open an account. It says personal information is used “To verify your identity and establish and manage your account” and to support KYC/AML/CTF verification, and that it may collect information from consumer reporting agencies “to verify your identity and to ensure that no one is using your information without your authorization.” Its partner documentation says the identity form collects name, address, SSN and date of birth, and that Polymarket US uses Socure as its identity verification provider.

How Polymarket US says it protects and shares it

The privacy policy's Security section says: “To protect your personal information from unauthorized access and use, we use security measures that comply with federal law. These measures include computer safeguards and secured files and buildings.” It also states plainly that no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, so it urges you to take precautions with your own information as well.

On sharing, the policy says PMUS shares personal information for everyday business purposes such as processing transactions, maintaining accounts, responding to court orders and legal investigations, or reporting to credit bureaus, and that this sharing cannot be limited. Sharing for its own marketing can be limited. It says sensitive personal information, which it lists as including a Social Security number, is collected only for purposes allowed by law or with your consent. On keeping it, the policy says personal information is retained for as long as needed to comply with regulatory obligations or applicable laws, including CFTC recordkeeping periods that are generally five years.

What happens if you will not give it

Verification is not optional for an account that can hold money: “You must complete KYC before you can deposit funds or trade.” Most users are verified automatically; if more is needed, you may be asked to upload a government-issued ID and complete a selfie check, and manual review can take longer. Polymarket US's partner documentation lists rejection as one result of a check, where the participant cannot trade. If a check stalls, what happens when verification stalls lists each result and what to send support.

Where code SPLASH goes in sign-up
