Polymarket US Identity Verification: What It Asks For
Polymarket US verifies your identity before you can deposit or trade. After you sign up with Google or Apple ID, it asks for your date of birth, phone number, legal name, residential address and Social Security number. Most users are verified automatically; some are asked for a government-issued ID and a selfie check.

The five steps Polymarket US lists
Polymarket US's account guide sets out the sign-up in this order:
- Create the account with Google or Apple ID.
- Polymarket US creates a username for you. It shows on your profile, and you can change it in Settings under Edit profile.
- Enter your date of birth, phone number, legal name, residential address and Social Security number. Polymarket US texts a code to confirm the phone number.
- Identity verification, which Polymarket US calls KYC. Most users pass automatically.
- Once verified, deposit and start trading.
Your username matters later. Polymarket US says it is also your referral code if you ever invite a friend.
What to have ready
Polymarket US's sign-up asks for the same items every time, so gathering them first keeps the process to one sitting:
- A Google or Apple account to sign in with
- A phone that can receive a text message, for the confirmation code
- Your legal name as it appears on your identity documents
- Your residential address
- Your Social Security number
- A government-issued photo ID, in case the automatic check asks for one
The ID may not be needed at all. Polymarket US says most users are verified automatically from the details they enter, and only some are asked to upload an ID and take a selfie.
Why it asks for a Social Security number
Polymarket US says KYC is required to comply with federal identity and anti-money-laundering rules, and that the checks confirm who you are. It describes its onboarding as following US federal compliance standards because it is a CFTC-regulated exchange. Our page on whether Polymarket US is legal covers that status.
The requirement is firm: you must complete KYC before you can deposit funds or trade. There's no way to fund first and verify later.
If you're asked for more
When the automatic check can't confirm you, Polymarket US may ask you to upload a government-issued ID and complete a selfie check. Have the ID at hand before you start so the sign-up doesn't stall halfway.
Small mismatches are a common cause. A legal name that differs from the one on file, or an address that isn't your residential address, can send an account to manual review.
When an account is under review
Polymarket US keeps a help page for accounts placed under review after sign-up. If yours is, that page and support are the routes: email support@polymarket.us or use the in-app chat. We can't see or speed up any account.
After you're verified
Verification unlocks the rest of the account. Once KYC is done, Polymarket US lets you fund the account from the Portfolio tab with a debit card, bank transfer, Apple Pay on iPhone, PayPal, Venmo, USDC on iPhone where available, or a wire. Our deposit methods guide lists the limits and clearing times for each.
Your verified identity also limits incentives. Polymarket US pays only one referral bonus per verified identity, and its deposit campaign pays one credit per person. Opening a second account to claim an offer again is listed as prohibited, and Polymarket US says it may suspend accounts involved.
If you need help at any step, Polymarket US lists support@polymarket.us and the in-app chat.
Who can't pass or can't trade
Verification is about who you are. Separate rules cover what you may trade. Polymarket US's trading-restrictions page says you may not trade a market if you hold confidential information about its outcome that you owe someone a duty to keep, or if you are in a position to influence the result. Some sports contracts also bar players, coaches, staff, team owners and their households.
The required risk disclosure on this page says the product is 18+ only, restrictions and eligibility requirements apply, and it is not available in all jurisdictions.
Do the code before you finish
One sign-up detail affects the new-user offer. Polymarket US's Deposit Incentive Program ties your campaign to the code or link used at onboarding, and its referral FAQ says codes must be applied during sign-up. If a link doesn't fill a code in, Polymarket US says you can type it in manually during onboarding. The Polymarket promo code page shows where that happens with code SPLASH.
